Agricultural, health, economic or social consequences are only some of the multiply examples that can be mentioned.

With respect to the health consequences, the main illnesses observed were respiratory, gastroentological, or, less frequently, ear, skin or eye diseases. In spite of these strong effects, there may not be a clear reply of Governments to sort this problem out.
As I was researching on this topic, I found some news about Portugal and Spain regarding climate changes. I was not truly aware that more than 65% of Portugal is facing drought, and some studies show that at least five thousand people had water supply issues, in the year of 2005.

The Iberian Peninsula is suffering from its worst drought in decades and the science community agrees that one of the consequences of climate change will be an increase in the number and severity of forest fires. Fire frequency is expected to increase with human-induced climate change, especially in places where rainfall is reduced or remains the same.

I’ve witnessed some forests being destroyed by fires in my area of residence, and families that couldn’t do anything to save their home, due to the extreme drought climate during summer.

So, whose fault is this? Are we destroying our world and by that destroying ourselves? What measures should we take to reduce this climate changes?
Even though droughts can affect in a cyclical way to any continent in the world (as well as floods), it´s true that human behaviour is making this problem bigger.

Year after year we can see how the global heating generates droughts with more frequency.

It´s a complex problem, but these could be some actions to minimize the effects of droughts:

-Adequate cultivations to vegetables which need little water.

-Planting trees in the cities which also need little water.

-Water savers at home.

-Depurate residual water.

-Desalination.

These points are very important but I think that the most important one is our disposition of saving water, and to educate our children to do thay.
I agree with you, fpizarro1. Information on this problem and education on how to conserve water are two important steps in minimizing the effects of drought. In addition, there are other measures we can implement to lessen these effects such as:

• Regulate the use of water (for example, in the case of watering yards, filling swimming pools or washing cars).

• Develop strategies to recycle water that can be use to water plants or by farmers in their farms.
When we talk about prevent drought, it’s important that we don’t forget that in many countries, where droughts are a frequent phenomenon, these actions to minimize the effects of droughts are currently being used. In development countries where this natural phenomena happens, these measures were very important because with that kind of action we avoid desertification in this areas and overpopulation in other areas! Of course, we can’t forget despite these measures, There will always be cultures which are impossible to develop in areas like this, but other resources can be use!
From my point of view, what is really important is to start educating the poblation in the idea that water is a very important resource that everybody should care and not waste.

What I mean, is that, the goverment should give information or present TV commercials, or leaflets about mechanisms for saving water and preventing the unuseful water waste.

At least that's my opinion, what do you think ?
I agree with you, to inform the population is very important but I think it would be better to start educating about the correct use of water since childhood, at school. Water is essential for life and if we start to awareness people at school, in the future they will teach their children to use water properly and so prevent desertification that is taken place, for example, in our country.

On the other hand, as you said, apart from awareness people, we can establish a series of measures to reduce water usage:

• Using drip irrigation system. It is an efficient and responsible use of water for cultivation.

• Wastewater reuse

• Modernization of water supply networks to reduce losses caused by breakdowns or bad driving systems

• Etc

However, from my point of view, the main thing is a greater legislative control over the misuse of water. The government should encourage innovation ideas and projects for the proper use of water, as well as punish those whose water consumption was excessive. What do you think about penalizing those who waste water?
